Cruz to the Top

Saturday, February 21st, 2009

Congratulations go out to our friend and cohort Israel “Izzy” Cruz, artist and Co-Creator of Atomik Mike. Izzy was recently named on the Den of Geeks ” Ten Comicbook Creators to Watch Out for”, and not only was he on the list he heads the list in the number one spot! While we are thrilled with Izzy’s recognition, we feel it we should correct a couple of statements made on the Den of Geeks site. First is the publisher. Alias was the original publisher of Atomik Mike, but since the closing of their doors our new home for our simian hero has been Desperado publishing…and you can still order copies of the trades through their site, your LCS and Barnes and Noble. Secondly, the Comcast deal was something that didn’t pan out. That was an old press release, but there has been some movement recently that we hope to talk about in the near future including the new OGN coming later this year. Again, three cheers for our pal Izzy…now go out and see why he IS such a great artist.

Frozen Beach and Dynamo 5 Sitting in a Tree

Monday, February 16th, 2009

Coming soon – at the end of this month – you can catch our first published comic book work under the new Frozen Beach banner.

In issue #20 of Image Comics’ Dynamo 5 we have a 5 page backup story for one of the secondary characters. The short story was written by Stephan Nilson, pencilled by Wesley Gunn and has letters by yours truly. We’re joined by colorist Wesley Wong and inker Josh Templeton.

Be sure to check it out and let us know what you think. Special thanks to Jay Faerber for giving us a shot as a team. Maybe he’ll have us back some day to do another one.

Scott Thompson Joins Frozen Beach

Wednesday, February 11th, 2009

Scott Thompson, of The Kids in the Hall fame, has partnered up with Frozen Beach Studios to produce a new graphic novel series Husk: Hollow Planet. As the name states the book features one of Scott’s more popular characters, Danny Husk. For those familiar with Danny Husk they will enjoy seeing this every-man’s hero caught up in another wild and funny adventure. If you’re new to Danny and the crazy events that happen to him, don’t fret, this is a perfect launching point for you too. The series is written by Scott and illustrated by Kyle Morton, and the first graphic novel is scheduled for release later this year. Look for more information and convention appearances by the creative team in early march as well as the first glimpse at Husk: Hollow Plant vol 1.
